Art Exhibition by Artist Julieanne Ryan
“Underwood is Julianne Ryan's first solo exhibition. Her recent work explores layered feelings and responses to her life journey through connections to nature.”
Julianne uses natural substrates, canvas and wood panels and works mostly with watercolour, ink, acrylic and pencil to create depictions of feelings and experiences. Her latest works are multilayered with overlapping images that explore her experiences of chronic illness while correspondingly relating to her connection with nature. She also produces digital drawings, illustrations of birds and poetry that link to her memories, experiences and to current wellness practices.
Coming Up in the Art Gallery:
Maitland is a Nyoongar Ballardong man and was born in the wheatbelt town of Pingelly Western Australia. His cultural heritage is very important to him.
He has traditional ties that run from Bridgetown, to Boddington and through the wheatbelt of Western Australia. Maitlands spiritual totem is the Kaarak the red-tailed cockatoo and it is very sacred to the Nyoongar people.
He is a self-taught artist and art is a way that Aboriginal people can keep culture strong, so when he paints, he can show his vision of his Boodja (country). Maitlands artwork tells a story and when he paints, he is inside that story and inside the painting.
